About Griffin's Botanicals

How I Got Here

Welcome to my online home. Thank you for visiting. You are very welcome here.

I am a qualified medical herbalist, passing with merit, and member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), the oldest professional herbal body in the world. It brings me huge joy being able to help people feel better by using my knowledge and skills alongside herbal medicine.

I started making herbal tinctures, teas, syrups, creams and oils for friends and family in 2016. That was when I set up my Etsy and eBay shops, which I continue to run. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GriffinsBotanicals  I became a medical herbalist so I could better help my friends, family and Etsy customers, who often asked for advice.

My very scientific degree level course with Heartwood Education was much harder than I imagined and it gave me so much more than I hoped for. I feel transformed. Being a herbalist has changed how I think, how I look at the world, how I engage with people and how I feel. I have come back to myself, to the 15 year old who wanted to be a dietician or educational psychologist as I use both aspects as a herbal practitioner.

As part of my course I had to complete 500 clinical hours. This helped me learn a huge amount and develop my own clinical skills of case history taking, prescription formulation and making. I discovered my style is to give my patients space and time to tell their health stories, guided by questions along the way in a warm, kind and friendly manner. The suggestions I make to you during a consultation will always consider your interests and what small changes you can make. I believe a herbal consultation should be a collaboration.

I still make herbal tinctures and dried herbal teas from the medicinal plants growing in my garden and around me, as well as buying in quality tinctures, dried herbs and powders. The medicinal herb bounty in and around Mudeford Woods is the reason I moved to Brabazon Drive in 2018 from Hove. My first season of making rosehip syrup in 2016, with the gorgeously large and rosy Rosa rugosa hips that I picked myself, seems a very long time ago!

I would love to meet you for a consultation online or in person at my home clinic in Mudeford, Dorset. Face to face consultations will start later this summer, once I have finished the decorating! I can support you with chronic, long-standing health conditions and more recently begun ones too.

An initial consultation is for 1 to 1 1/2 hours long to give you lots of time to talk and be heard, and to help me build up a picture of your health story, getting to the root of your symptoms. After this I can prescribe herbal medicine that is custom made for you in the form of tinctures or teas, and perhaps creams or oils, and gently suggest helpful changes you could make to your diet or lifestyle in a way that works for you. I make some of my own fresh herb tinctures, herb-infused oils and teas using herbs from my garden and local area. Some herbalists believe fresh herbs have extra vitality that is captured in fresh herb tinctures. I do too!

I also sell some more generalised herbal products. I try to keep costs low even though the quality of my products is high, as I value the plants, customers and patients. I hope you find what you are looking for and perhaps some other things besides. If you would like a consultation or have any questions, please get in touch. I would love to hear from you. Thank you for reading.
